Hyperspace

Visual direction and packaging for Beck’s eleventh studio album, Hyperspace.

Overview

We worked with Beck’s creative director to define the creative direction and packaging for Hyperspace. The project began with an open exploration of surreal, whimsical imagery—disconnected objects, unexpected compositions, visual non-sequiturs. Over time, that language distilled into a more minimal and contained environment. The final cover features a lone vintage Toyota Celica situated in a stark, isolated landscape. The car became a recurring reference point across the packaging. Interior materials, finishes, and details from the Celica informed layout decisions and tactile elements—tying the physical experience of the album to a specific object and design era. We drew from late-20th-century Japanese industrial design, particularly in how it once positioned consumer products as optimistic visions of the future.
